The Anime Thread Empty The Anime Thread

Post by Cephalo the Pod Sun 26 Aug 2012, 9:16 pm

What has made me watch so much recently? In general, I believe I was inspired by watching Gurren Lagann, as well as the abundance of free shows on the internet, to immerse myself in the medium.

Code Geass was the first anime I watched after Gurren Lagann. I forgot what pulled me in. Probably just it's popularity. I saw a few demotivational posters poking fun at it and decided to see what all the fuss was about.

Eureka Seven was the result of boredom and searching for more mecha anime to watch.

Haruhi Suzumiya is, well, Haruhi Suzumiya, and I figured, if I'm gonna be an anime fan, I should get to know this one.

Soul Eater was a title that popped up frequently on TVTropes, and the characters sounded interesting.

Deadman Wonderland had an amusing premise: boy framed for classroom massacre, sent to amusement park prison, suddenly has blood powers. And it now just occurs to me that I have a rather unorthodox definition of "amuising".

Next up, Puella Magi Madoka Magica. First found out its existence from an AMV. Read up on it, heard it was a Magical Girl story except it was a deconstruction, and was hooked.

    Finished Casshern Sins this July...huh.
24 episodes of this super robot guy who apparently killed this god-like woman and indirectly brought about a disease that targets robots and humans alike, but he doesn't remember a thing. And now everyone wants to eat him. To be immortal. Yeah.
First half is virtually nothing but Casshern meeting one-shot characters, standing around and doing nothing until someone tries to kill him. The second half has much more of an arc to it.

Since the previous forum shut down, I've watched Asura Cryin'. 26 episodes, and the first one alone features a ghost, giant robots, demons, and gun-toting student councils. I really liked it.

And I've also seen a few episodes of Durarara!!. It's...weird. There's lots of different, seperate story arcs, and no one absolute main character from what I can tell.

I can't decide what anime I like more, Cardcaptor Sakura or Gurren Lagann. I think lately my taste has changed to the point that I find GL kind of.. obnoxious. CCS is extremely light hearted and, of course, nostalgic.

an anime sub cat? Separate from the television?

This will probably be fine. I mean outside of random posts saying "this anime is good", "we should all watch this anime", there really isn't much to discuss.

This. I think we can contain all of the discussion in one thread.

I looked up Bokurano on Google Images. The pictures really make it look uninteresting, but, they are just pictures. Apparently, it's a very un-heard of anime but not bad.

Bokurano...why does that name sound familiar?
    *Looks on TVTropes.*
Ah, that. I never looked much into it, but the premise in interesting enough. It is, basically, kids saving the world with Humongous Mecha. Apparently it is really depressing.

Ninja Scroll is great, Kite is decent mainly good action though but it is pretty dumb. Avoid Doomegaopolis.(probably spelt that last one wrong).

Digimon is a pretty solid show if you can get past the mediocre voice acting (it's really only the champion forms that have meh voice acting)
