This thread is going to be sick!!!!!!! I really enjoyed looking at all the location names again. I think we made up some really cool sounding places and most of them have hidden meanings behind them. Can't wait to work on this again.

I've got the first discussion for the thread. Should we rename the UD Zone to something else? We've been using the name for a long time but I feel like it doesn't fit. Mainly due to the name sounding very modern. Like, the use of "zone". It doesn't fit the medieval fantasy sounding names that the rest of the world has. It almost sounds too sci-fi or something. What do you guys think?

I think I totally agree, I was thinking that myself as I was redesigning the layout.

I am for it still being called by a definition however, and not a name. I feel should be set apart and made evidently different from the other continents that way.

    It is:
    politically neutral
    uninhabited
    poorly understood
likely romanticized in places where people DO know it exists

so we could use these traits to help us think of a new name.

I feel like the stated populations are a little small. And by that I mean there ought to be an extra zero at the back of every number.

I know I'm no geography/history major, but so far you've only confirmed the existence of about 45,000 people living in the entire nation of Appinsgot.

By the way, what historical time period is this setting meant to resemble? Sometime closer to A.D. 500? A.D. 1000?

oh i didn't even see this post, sorry ty.
yeah the numbers may be a little low... but we've got some things to consider.

maybe you can help me with that. does it make sense for there to be locomotives but no firearms?
i want for sure no firearms, but i'm not opposed to locomotives.

if it represents a time early enough, say anything BC, then it makes sense for the population to be rather low.
additionally; the world in it's entirety is considerably smaller than earth. the whole world is basically the size of a large country.

Hmmm....I'm not sure how I feel about trains. It seems a little too modern for the time period setting of Arcasia. I've always imagined Arcasia in a medieval style, like they all used swords and wear armour so it doesn't seem like they would have that advanced of technology in the world.

I imagine the Gollethin's might have slightly more advanced technology, inventing new ways to transport materials from their mines. Using the new minerals and shit to create some interesting machinery. Idk, maybe they could have invented some locomotive-esque machine but without it directly being a train.

This could be the solution, basically medieval train systems.

ideas for new UD zone name? could be something with political roots, seeing as how the island was fought over and acted as a sort of battleground for some period of time

    'the median domain'?
    'the inbetween'?
    'the middle field'?
    'the uncommitted'?
things of this sort of nature

also i think it would be fitting if it had a political name to which the nations referenced it and a historical name to which mystics and the like referenced it

I like the sound of "the inbetween", kind of seems like a limbo type thingy. Each culture could have their own name for the UD Zone but in the end it all means the same thing, "the inbetween".

this is VERY much similar to what I've been imagining some of the Arcasia music sounding like.

roaring harmonicas, growling base and sweeping guitar chords.

like epics transcribed into symphonies, viciously conjured with the tools of folk rock.

this is another obvious example that comes to mind

Something I've fantasized about making actually is an Arcasia themed party game that's pretty much just a rip off of Mario Party.

That's it, that's the whole idea.

Good fantasy, would be actually so funny.

Like anybody else would be thinking “who ARE these characters and how do they have a spin-off game with now main series game??”
