Here's some poopy concepts I drew for fun. I was messing around with some animal and gorni/ginro designs. I was seeing what it would be like if gorni and ginros all had different head shapes depending on their tribe. I was also testing out what it would be like if every animal in the game was the same shape.

love it. definitely want to go for some tribal/african/ethnic sounds. I need to study other rts soundscapes to see whats crackin.

I don't imagine origins would have a dark looking palette. I've always pictured something close to Minecraft but maybe even a bit brighter?

Yeah i think i've always pictured minecraft-esque colours too.

but maybe now is the time for us to really consider our options. Although the gameplay is rather different, we really don't want to make another minecraft/terraria in terms of style.

I mean we could really do some funky, bold stuff if we wanted to. Like 80s colours like tealish aqua marine type things. or something, anything!

    i'm just spitballin

for example; what if we design a palette so that the game looks like its done in water colours?

Dude, I'd actually be super down for water colours!! I think that could end up looking amazing if applied right.

    ORiGiNS - A Project - Page 2 291815-7

I was thinking earlier that the game would look dope if it had a cave drawing look to it. It would fit the whole games theme and the water colours could be used to make a primitive looking style.

YESYES! THANK YOU. How did this concept slip my mind? This is exactly the type of aesthetic we should be going for.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_painting

Everything should feel like a slightly cutsie version of a cave painting.
Chalky or crayon like outlines with water color interiors?
We'll probably need to bump the art up to 16 bit

Ya man, just was I was thinking. The cutsie cave paintings would be so pleasant to look at.

Just wondering, does the game actually need to be pixelated anymore? I feel like the cave painting look couldn't be portrayed right if it's only 16-bit. Plus, so many indie games are already pixelated that it might be seen as just "another indie game".

Like, I could totally draw the cave painting stuff in an art program using brushes and shit. Then couldn't it be transferred to grids like how it is already?

i was saying i like the sounds of it, and as long as the dimensions on the pictures are all right, and as long as animation wouldn't be too hard, then i don't see why it wouldn't work

i was also saying though that serge plans on helping with the art now so we should come to a decision all together.

do you think you could dummy up some pomegranates pics so i could see how it looks? maybe a gorni? lately i've been picturing them short and stubby with short spaghetti limbs

i cant find the reference picture i used last time, lemme do something up

maybe something like this https://puu.sh/ss3ZI/44be74cffa.png except cute instead of terrifying, and less fat

woah very sick indeed. what does he specifically mean when he says cutting shapes out of the colour wheel?

he just goes to the colour wheel and picks a random blob?
