    Persona 4 Golden: Entry 12, 49:15 hours - Endgame
I should note that I've unlocked two endings so far. They're the earliest and easiest to get, so I'm not really done. I am on my way to the 3rd and 4th endings, the real good ones.
    Spoiler:
Pag and go fought, vanquished and apprehended Taro Namatame and saved Nanako. Except Nanako's not doing too well. At all. She was in the hospital recovering for a few weeks. Meanwhile, the fog in Inaba continued around all this time. It was getting on everybody's nerves.

One day, Nanako's condition suddenly went to shit. The Team rushed over to the hospital to see her, but after some time passed, her heart stopped beating. Everybody got sad. Including me. All of a sudden, a thump could be heard in Namatame's room. The Team ran in to find him on the ground in a panic. Enraged by Nanako's death, they pondered the idea of throwing him into a TV and leaving him to die in the Midnight Channel. Here is where the endings drift apart.

ENDING #1: Pag talked everyone out of killing him. A bitter choice, yes, but NANAKO'S ALIVE!! SWEET!!!! As the game timeskipped from December 3 to March 21, Namatame confessed to his crimes, Pag returned to the city, Game Over.

ENDING #2: They killed Namatame. Nanako stayed dead. Everything else is the same.

As of now, in timeline #3, Pag and co. have decided to spare Namatame, as in #1. And Nanako came back, as in #1. The difference here is extra plot. Here the Team began to believe that maybe Namatame wasn't behind it all. And sure enough, once they got a chance to talk to him in the hospital, he explained himself.

Namatame only witnessed the first two deaths. He kidnapped later victims to protect them from the killer. He had no idea that the Midnight Channel was dangerous and that that was the true killer's method. He wasn't crazy when he said he was "saving" people; just ignorant. The group then needed to figure out who was responsible for the first two deaths. I was given a list of various characters who showed up through the game and had to deduce who was the true killer.

Sadly, I've had this spoiled for me. Read one too many spoilers on TVTropes. It's Adachi, Pag's uncle's "bumbling" partner. The Team confronted him with their accusations, and he fled from them, apparently into the Midnight Channel. They found him in the TV World, and HOLY SHIT DUDE DON'T MAKE THAT FACE. He revealed that the recent fog spell is due to the TV World leaking into the real world; soon Shadows will take over, and the TV World will be the new reality.

In the middle of all of this, Teddie had another existential crisis. He felt worthless, but his friends helped him to realize that his ownership of a Persona meant he must be human. Beautiful moment there.
I beat the boss from the last entry. And it was sure met par for the course. I love the bosses in the game. Each one pushes me to formulate new methods. It's great.

A lot of story has happened. And now I'm in a new dungeon. I hate to have to put this game down.

Persona 4 Golden: Entry 13, 54:07 hours - The final dungeon
I've just been touring the dungeon I'm in right now, beating all the monsters I can so that I'm ready for the boss.

Persona 4 Golden: Entry 14, 57:27 hours - No pressure
    Spoiler:
The Investigation Team cornered Adachi in the TV World, and proceeded to fight him...and his Persona?! Great.

Well he went down. Then he got possessed, by this, god-thinger. Apparently this Ameno-Sagiri guy is the origin of the TV World, the collective thoughts of humanity. He has decided to test the Team and their Personas in battle to decide humanity's fate. Yay.
I beat the boss of the final dungeon! Except there's another boss after that. And I don't get healed what the hell?!

Gah, I think I need to train more. And get some SP-healing items.

Persona 4 Golden: Entry 15, 57:54 hours - Training montage
I've been spending the past little while farming for experience so that my party stands a chance against this boss. My efforts bear promising fruit; each of my four characters gained almost 10 levels, and I took the latest boss down to 50% health. Only an easily-identified mistake on my part got me killed.

    Persona 4 Golden: Entry 16, 65:47 hours - Yay
    Spoiler:
So through perseverance and lots of medical kits, our heroes defeated Ameno-Sagiri. He then stopped trying to everyone into Shadows. Pretty cool guy, actually.

The Investigation Team has won. The killer has been apprehended, the TV World has been tamed. All that's left is for Pag to enjoy the last few months in Inaba.
I beat that boss duo from the last few entries. Looks like the plot's over.

    Mystery Food X! CHRISTMAS EDITION!!

Post by Cephalo the Pod on Tue 29 Jan 2013, 11:59 pm

Persona 4 Golden: Entry 17, 66:07 hours - True Endgame
    Spoiler:
The months passed. Pag spent many happy, Shadow-free days with friends, went on a ski trip, spent Christmas and Valentine's Day with Yukiko.

ENDING #3: With the true killer apprehended, Pag leaves for the city, his friends tearfully biding him farewell. Holding a photo of the Investigation Team, the year in Inaba comes to an end. Goodbye.

    Ready for more?

Looking at TVTropes too much kinda ruined a lot of the following surprises for me, but whatever. If you control Pag right, you'll unlock a cutscene where the whole team coincidentally shows up at the Junes food court, their Special Headquarters. Something's still nagging at them; who started the Midnight Channel? Each Team member got the ability to enter TVs when they got their Persona. But they only got their Persona in the TV. How did Pag do it? Or Adachi? Namatame?

After some memory jogging, Pag pieced together memories of his first day in Inaba, and who first talked to him there. It's likely that this person gave Pag, Adachi and Namatame their powers. It is then that Pag discovers that THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT WAS BEHIND IT ALL!!!

Well actually, it's Izanami, goddess wife to Izanagi. Izanagi is the inspiration for Pag's very first Persona, and both gods were mentioned in a lecture on a school trip, so that's foreshadowing I guess. Izanami has been testing humanity, using Pag, Adachi and Namatame as her Three Game Pieces. What do humans desire? Despair, like Namatame? Emptiness, like Adachi? Or hope, like Pag? It all comes down to this. The final battle with the goddess of death, and the pivotal moment of mankind.

Remember when this was a murder mystery? Ga figger.
This game just. Doesn't. END. Seriously, half of this game has left the player feeling like it's all finally over when obviously it's not. But now it's for sure. The True Final Battle is under way.

But if I play Persona 4 Arena, does his name become Paa?

Post by Cephalo the Pod on Wed 30 Jan 2013, 9:02 pm

Persona 4 Golden: Entry 18, 68:27 hours - Reach out to the truth
    Spoiler:
Izanami-no-Okami, now a monstrous corpse, began to drag our heroes down into some unknown abyss. Pag passed out, losing all hope in the endless fog. Just then, his Social Links appeared to give him words of encouragement. It was with his tightest bonds that he fused together his ultimate Persona, Izanagi-no-Okami, and vanquish Izanami.

ENDING #4: like ending #3, but with more. Along with the true killer being apprehended, all of the fog and shadows have vanished from the TV World, the collective unconscious of mankind. It is now a beautiful landscape free of danger.

    Seeya soon Pag.
So, finally finally FINALLY, I beat the absolute true final boss. The story has officially wrapped up.

    Persona 4 Golden: COMPLETE!!!

I'll still be playing a NewGame+, try out a bunch of side-stuff I missed before. Now that I have a full grasp of the game, I'll be able to do more.

Oh, and now his name really is Pag. Pag Akio.

    This is a thing now.

    Persona 4 Golden: Howbouthat?
This is kind of a review. Except not. I won't give a score, becuase I'm not confident enough in my experience with RPGs in general to give it a comparable value. This is my first Persona game, and my first Shin Megami Tensei game. I'll just say whether I enjoyed it or not.

I enjoyed this game. Like any RPG, it's easy to get underleveled and crushed by a boss before farming for two hours and greatly improving your chances. But if you're at the proper level, it's a fun challenge.

The gameplay is unique enough compared to what I've played before to make the purchase worthwhile. You have a party, as is the standard, but you yourself are kinda an amalgamation. There's a massive list of personas, and you can hold 8/10/12 at a time. You equip one persona at a time. Each one has different stats, attacks, and elemental resistances, but your protagonist has one health bar. If that reaches 0, Game Over. Each persona can only have 8 attacks, and there's a lot more than 8 moves in the game. This means you'll be making good use of the switching mechanic as you gain more options.

"One More!" was introduced in Persona 3. Landing a super-effective hit against an opponent who isn't already knocked down grants you one more attack. Hitting a knocked-down opponent can make them dizzy and miss a turn.

You know how in a typical Final Fantasy game all the bosses are immune to pretty much anything that isn't a straightforward attack? And you never need anything other than straightforward attacks against regular enemies? Well that changes in Persona 4...kinda. All bosses are still immune to all status conditions (I'm pretty sure), but lowering their attack, defense, and hit/dodge rate is still a perfectly viable option (and in later bosses, practically necessary).

Concise consensus? I enjoyed what this game had to offer.

    Mythos.

Post by Cephalo the Pod on Fri 15 Mar 2013, 10:53 am

I never mentioned this, but the demons in Shin Megami Tensei? All based off of mythological figures. From, like, absolutely everything. Remember Oberon and Titania? Those fairy royalty from A Midsummer Night's Dream? They're Personas. Anubis? A Persona. Hell, Persona 2 has a main villain based off of the Cthulu mythos. Crazy.

You can even play as Satan. Satan.
    And Beelzebub.
    And Baal Zebul
    And Lucifer.
    And Helel.

Although apparently Lucifer is actually different from Satan or something, I'm not sure. And Beelzebub and Baal Zebul aren't exactly Satan.

I played Super Meat Boy at Italyins's last week. He had unlocked up to world 4 of 6, so I did most of worlds 1 and 2, did a bit of 3, then plowed through the next three worlds, right up to the final boss. Didn't have time to beat it.

It's fantastic. Just pure platforming bliss. It's tough, but the game sets you up as quickly as you knock it down. And every level ends with a replay featuring all of your attempts at the level. It's kind of relieving. After screwing up so many times, you get to see all of your hard work right before you. And it's hilarious.

I'm gonna reach for the stars.

Post by Cephalo the Pod on Mon 03 Jun 2013, 11:05 am

    This is from last night.

Sonic Colours: Entry 1, 1.5 hours - Colour me excited
A new series begins! Bought this with some birthday money, along with 2000 Wii points. I spent only $45 of $200, so I'm bound to buy more. Anyway, this game starts off pretty quick. There's not even any cutscenes before the first level.

The only Sonic game I've ever really played before this is Shadow the Hedgehog. And from the very little of Sonic internet games and S. Unleashed I've played, that one's not a very traditional game.

So far I've beaten the first world and some of the second. This feels a lot more like the Unleashed demo than it does Shadow. A lot of it is just running. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing much. But the first boss was cool.

    From yesterday.

Final Fantasy II: Entry 8, 9:06 hours - Took me long enough
    Spoiler:
Firion and co. found the engine of the Palamecian Empire's SuperAirship Dreadnaught. Throwing the Sunfire in, the engine was destroyed and the Dreadnaught, finally, fell. But what's this?! A Dark Knight spotted them! Weapons in hand, our heroes readied themselves to flee. Um, okay.

Back in Altair, the King's health was failing. As a series of last requests, he assigned tasks to Gordon, Minwu and our heroes. Firion's group is to head to Deist to find any Dragoons that survived the Empire's attack. In Paloom, a woman offers her ship to them a bit too earnestly.

And what do you know, it was a pirate ship! Maria took the crew out pretty easily with her magic. The pirates at their mercy, Firion and co. decided to bring the captain on their mission. The captain, Leila, happily obliged.

    To Deist!
After a long hiatus I'm back to FFII and have just finished the latest big mission. Side-member #3 (a Lancer) has left, but Side-member #4 (a Pirate) joins the plot. She's pretty cool; has two weapons and lv. 4 Thunder. And I have a ship now. Sweet.

    From a few days ago.

Final Fantasy II: Entry 9, 10:50 hours - Quit eggin' me
    Spoiler:
On the faraway island of Deist, Firion and co. discovered surviving dragoons. All two of them, a woman and her son. And their last remaining wyvern is on the verge of death.

After finding a pendent in the northern caves that let humans speak to wyverns, it made a request for the heroes to return to the caves and place a wyvern egg in the underground lake so that it may hatch.
Sailing is fun. I can go anywhere I want now, even areas with monsters that way outclass me.

    From Monday

Final Fantasy II: Entry 10, 12:28 hours - Where we begin, at Fynn
    Spoiler:
After some retreading, our heroes made it to the spring at the bottom of the Deist Caves. The egg has been placed, and in time it will hatch.

Back in Altair, the queen was acting funny, giggling constantly for no reason. Upon the party's return, she requested a chat with Firion alone. Turns out she wants to fuck him. Turns out she's a monster imposter. O.

So it turns out the real queen has been imprisoned under Castle Palamecia, and a challenge to fight for the queen of Fynn has been sent all across the world. Firion and co. ventured forth, only for the whole thing to have been a trap laid out by the Emperor. So then they rescued her the old-fashioned way.

That's it, no more of this bullshit, LET'S TAKE BACK CASTLE FYNN
    The plot progresses.

Spells get different animations as they rise in level. It's a nice touch.

Hello! You are reading this in Mario's voice.

Super Mario Bros.: Entry 1 - Let's go
Today I decided to just warp all the way to the end of the game, see how quickly I could finish it. But then I died at only World 5. And then you have to start all over again. It's kind of brutal.

Mario controls more stiffly in this game than in newer ones. It's gotten me killed a lot.

Gravity Rush: Entry 5 - You Will Die
    Spoiler:
Kat found a girl some ways away from the main camp. Said little girl proceeded to sketch right the fuck out. She appeared to be possessed by some entity, who prompted Kat to look inside her mind for the answers she needs. Apparently this little girl was a Creator, like Gade. And she has a mean nihilistic streak.

One acid trip later, Kat learned to operate an Ark that will rise and lead the children back home. But on the trip back, a giant Nevi knocked Kat off. Kat found herself back above the clouds, and what she saw wasn't very nice. One year had passed, and D'nelica had taken over as mayor. Military presence skyrocketed, with mixed reception.

Later, a scientist named Andreaux asked Kat for some help with some research. He was rather awkward throughour, constantly worried about losing his job and forgetting things. But then a later cutscene showed Andreaux talking with D'nelica about the whole thing, and apparently it was an act. What is D'nelica plannind? And what does this mean for our hero?
The problem with combat in this game is that you can't move the camera fast enough to take on enemies. It feels sluggish.
